Last night, I met with some fellow "Making Light" commentators in the Bay Area's Mountain View. Dawno couldn't make it, because of work, but I met Kathryn from Sunnyvale and Brad, her Significant Other. Also present were Terry Karney and, directly from Ottawa, Canada, Marna Nightingale. It was a wonderful evening, and not just the part where a lady told me I'm one of the better-looking Older Men she's met.

Vain, moi?

Today at the office wasn't particularly productive, as it consisted more of meetings and, when not meeting, answering requests for information and/or help. I also gave a presentation on a project I'm proud of. Alas, technical difficulties kind of undermined the awesomeness of my work.

Vain, moi?

Tonight though, I had dinner with my sisters-in-law, the hubby of one of them, and with my three nephews. At some point I mentionned the TV series "Dexter" to the grownups, which led my 8-year-old nephew to ask what that was. I succinctly explained that it was about a serial killer who only kills serials killers. I was quite impressed by his answer, given with a smile.

"How come he doesn't kill himself?"

Same reason as OTHAR TRYGGVASSEN, GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER, perhaps?

...which reminds me that I never asked my nephew if he'd liked the Girl Genius I'd given him at Christmas. Probably not otherwise he'd have said something. Well, I've corrupted Abi Sutherland's two kids. Can't succeed every time.

A very existential question, really.

Not bad for an 8-year-old, eh? I'd say rather Calvinesque.

He has to do his job first. He has considered suicide and talked himself out of it.

True, but my nephew didn't know that. That he said it with a smile means he's proud of his imagination.
