Let's see.

Patriotic old cat Jefferson is given pills to keep him comfortable until his ticker gives out. Freya, aka the Canine Goddess of Love, is on painkillers because of her hind leg's surgery. Bratty terrier Cagney is on antibiotics because a cactus spine broke under his skin, causing a huge swelling on his side.

That leaves earless doguette Nahla and killer cat Agatha undamaged.

The latest... My wife called to say that Cagney had licked the lump so much that he actually created an opening in it. It's now flat, and he's lapped up all the pus.

Yes, you may think "Yuck."

Nah, there's very little that can actually make me say "yuck", and that's just normal dog behavior. I think the last time I said yuck, it was in reaction to my son's dining plans. He likes to put barbecue sauce on everything. Yuck!

;-)

Comparing a dog to a young human male? No competition there.

I know! It's rather unfair competition...

All in all it's better

that it burst, and the antibiotics will work better with all the 'yuck' gone. You might try putting triple antibiotic ointment on the site as well as making sure it doesn't seal up again (goggie will probably do that his ownself...). Consuming triple antibiotic ointment is harmless- I've used it on all my cats from the start for minor injuries that I don't want to get bad.

Just yikes though. Wishes for better in the future going your way. Especially regarding your critters.

Thanks. Very much against his will, I give him antibiotic pills twice a day so hopefully that'll do the trick, but we're definitely keeping an eye on the little guy.

Now that the abscess has been auto-lanced, it will heal rapidly. If you really want to do something, you can try a warm compress or even just a little soap and water once to twice daily. :-)
