When I was in the Bay Area, in mid-July, I was provided a Thinkpad T400 laptop to replace my aging T43. A couple of weeks ago, I asked my team leader if he'd send me an extra adapter. It's a pain to have to crawl under my home office's desk every time I want to take my laptop elsewhere inside the house. Last week, I got an adapter. Plus a docking station. Plus a brand-new T410 laptop.

I'd say there had been a slight misunderstanding.

I'll have to send the whole thing back.
Unfortunately, I am still without that extra adapter.

You can just send the docking station and the laptop back, and claim you never received the adapter. Then when they continue not to send you one, you'll be all set!

Unfortunately, I already told them that an adapter was included with teh T410. I guess I'll have to wait until my next trip to the Bay Area.

It occurs to me that, if I had asked my team leader for a bonus, he might have accidentally given me a raise instead. What a terrible misunderstanding that would have been.

Unfortunately, the 2 laptops are of different models. That being said, I could have kept the new one if I had declared that the mini-desktop I use at the office isn't good enough anymore. Unfortunately that'd have been a lie. Me, a schmuck? Where did you get that idea?

Bah. Keep the new laptop. Far more sensible.

But then, barely 2 weeks after days spent to finally make the T400 useable, I'd have had to go thru that again with the T410.

By the way, my employer has finally agreed to replace my 4-year-old work-provided primitive cell phone with a BlackBerry. I'm not sure I should be happy that I will now be able to answer emails without logging onto my computer. On the other hand, the old phone truly was a piece of junk.
