I got a gift card in the interoffice email. I wish I could say it was because of the quality of my work and because of my going beyond and above the call of duty. Instead it's for having lasted so many years with this outfit - with a gratitude evaluated at $10 for each year.

It occurs to me that I can get myself a new pairs of black sneakers with this card - they're the only kinds of shoes I wear anywhere. And there'll be money left for a trip to the bookstore at the other end of the mall.
