the man who fell to Earth and the Trinity

This weekend, my wife and I drove around the southern part of New Mexico, for a bit of research about the novel she's working on. The original plans were going to include a detour by the Very Large Array, but we concluded that it'd mean arriving in Las Cruces too late for her to spend the time she needed at a local museum. Of course we got there plenty early and could have gone by the VLA. Drat. On the other hand, yesterday, we went by White Sands, which stood for an alien planet in David Bowie's "The Man Who Fell to Earth". Later, we drove back home by way of the road that leads to the Trinity Site, where the first Atomic Bomb was detonated - one of these years, I'll take the tour to the Site.
