I have a technical question about my new laptop.

I set up its screen saver to kick in after 5 minutes of inactivity. The way to do this was pretty obvious, even for Windows 7. Or so I thought, excerpt that the screen saver isn't coming up. Any idea what step I might be missing? Thanks for your help.

Did you set it up with control panel/personalization/screen saver? The "wait ___ minutes" thing should theoretically work. I can test this at home but not at work--group policy settings mean that stuff is greyed out for me.

It's possible that there's a power-saver setting that's overriding or interacting with the screen saver setting...?

Thanks. I followed your link and went WTF when I realized that this bug has been known for a long time and that one almost needs to be an tech-support person to handle this. I tried the personalization approach, without success. If you can take a look at your home computer tonight, I'd appreciate.

Damned MicroSoft bozos...
