This makes you want to visit London, doesn't it?

Already planning to go. Hoping to see lots of the 'Sphere there.

Does London's bid have any serious competition? If not, I should start planning for it. I have quite a few incentives to do so. :-)

Call no man happy until he is dead, but...according to this page, no one else has thrown their hat into the ring.

I suppose it's possible that a bid could come out of nowhere and win, but my suspension of disbelief would be seriously strained. Many of the people running this one were involved in 1995 and 2005, and they're serious and experienced conrunners. They subsumed one set of competition—a Den Haag bid crowd—and are pretty far into planning. That's one reason SMOFcon is in Amsterdam this December.

If I were going to pick a year to put a bid in, I'd look at that lot and pick a different one.

Thanks!
Barring some disaster, I expect that we'll be there.
See you then!
(If not earlier.)

I'm seriously thinking of starting up a Londinium in 214 bid, as soon as I can get the time machine working.

Unfortunately, the page I had bookmarked with the crowdsourced analysis of where each shot comes from seems to have dropped off the net.

Let me know if something like it resurfaces.

I'm very tempted to go, except that until the TSA stops using their strip-search machines, I don't want to fly. And a transAtlantic cruise takes too long. :(

I think they're quietly stopping the use of those stupid machines. They haven't tried to get a peep show out of me yet anyway. I'll find out tomorrow night when I fly to the Bay Area.

As for a transAtlantic flight, yes, that would be quite a thing to inflict upon my... ah... derrière.

If they do stop the use of those machines, I'll be very happy. Last I heard, they had explicitly said that they would continue to use them.
