"Prince of Foxes"

Last week, we finally watched a DVD I had given my wife for Christmas - 1949's "Prince of Foxes". It had been quite a long time since we'd last seen this addaptation of the Shellabarger novel, and it's as gorgeous as I remembered. And just as I remembered, Everett Sloane as the assassin steals the show from Tyrone Power's titular character and from Orson Welles as Cesare Borgia.

They made a movie of it? Ooh, I need to hunt that out sometime. I read the book entirely on Teresa's recommendation, and she was quite right that it was worth my while.

My wife has read the novel a long time ago and, while they had to compress some events, she loved the movie. By the way, it's my understanding that they filmed as much of it inside real Renaissance buildings as they could - that'd have made it even more gorgeous if it had been in color.
