Luckily there was no wind to carry sparks across the dry landscape. There isn't much stuff to burn, but I remember the big fire in the desert north of Los Angeles in 1997. By midnight, most of the flames had died out, thank goodness.

We've lived here for almost 11 years and this is the first this happened this close. Things have been very dry though because of the lack of snow and rain.

About a couple of miles, but, if the wind had been blowing like it is today, it'd probably have been much closer.
