downtime and flying blades

What with LiveJournal's problems today, followed tonight by an internet-access problem that hit most Comcastic customers in New Mexico, I haven't been able to post anything. That being said... I enjoyed very visible technical triumphs at work today, which is nice after spending half the weekend on fixing the system. There wasn't much downtime until Sunday morning. Not that downtime involved lying around and eating bonbons. On the contrary. Downtime meant doing something for myself, without having to worry about the possible cost of failure. More specifically, it meant taking an axe to our backyard's dead tree while making sure that the blade's initial flight away from its handle would not see an encore. Once I had chipped away at ground level, I pushed the trunk sideways until it broke. This left me with a great sense of accomplishment.
