My boss called this afternoon to talk about my work situation. Without my bringing it up, he acknowledged that it has had a high cost on my personal life. One can hope that something will actually be done so that I can regain some of that life. He also outright said that our system would have fallen apart without me, and that he has passed that message on to his higherups. This won't stop me from keeping my eyes and ears open for opportunities elsewhere because all those years given to corporations have taught me that the proof is in the pudding. Or, if I can choose, in a bucket of strawberry ice cream.

Are you sufficiently remunerated for the high cost to your personal life? Because, you know, loyalty runs both ways.

The remuneration isn't bad. Still, more wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't want an high increase to my regular paycheck. That'd only make me more expensive, especially when the old system is finally replaced by the new superduper system in 2012, about which I will have little experience. A bonus once in a while would be welcome though. And time to enjoy life would be nice too. :-)
