I'm at BayCon. I introduced myself to GoH Mary Robinette Kowal, puppeteer and author of novel "Shades of Milk and Honey", who was on a panel with my wife. I then had dinner with a few Fluorospherians at a restaurant that serves Chinese Islamic food. I'm kind of tired right now, what with the long ride from New Mexico. At least I didn't have to worry about the Tehachapi pass being snowed in. I'll probably call it quits for today now.

I'd love hearing more about that meal, when you have time. Was it different aside from the obvious lack of pork?

Hmmm... I'm not sure any of our table's dishes had any pork in it, but I think the others called it Islam Chinese because of the addition of some pasta dishes. Terry Karney might be able to confirm.

The restaurant is Ma's in San Jose. We had sesame bread, which is crusted with sesame seeds, stuffed with green onions, and cooked to order in a big pan. Also hot & sour soup (vegetarian), one shrimp and one vegetable dough slice chow mein (the noodles are fresh, thick, literally sliced dough), Mongolian lamb, some lamb with pickled cabbage, spicy eggplant, spicy green beans, shrimp fried rice, and scallops with snow peas. That was for eight people. Kind of a mix of adventurous and not so adventurous eaters. Everybody seemed happy with the meal, had plenty to eat, and the conversation was good.
