it WAS a grind

I saw Grindhouse on Tuesday night. I was rather disappointed. My own reaction to "Planet Terror" is that of an overextended joke that went on longer than it should have, but still managed to make me sort-of smile. "Death-proof" bored me out of my skull, but luckily no zombies from "Planet Terror" were around to pick my brain up. The fake coming-attractions were just right though, amusing but not overstaying their welcome. I especially enjoyed Nicholas Cage as Fu Manchu.

If I still had a beard I'd be muttering into it. That casting just seems...incongruous, somehow.

Incongruous, yes, but so appropriate. For this fake coming-attraction anyway. Too bad the rest of the whole thing wasn't up (or down) to that level. I found myself looking for the fast-forward button during "Death-proof" and seriously considered walking out in the middle of it.
