This morning, I mailed the last payment for our minivan's loan. It is now all ours, dings, dents and all.

It should thus now be time to trade it in for a new one...
(We've got three years to go on our minivan.)

They might in a year or two.

Our plan is to run the minivan into the ground. By then they might have hybrid minivans, affordable ones anyway.

That sounds like a sensible approach.

We're running a variation on that plan...run our Element into the ground until they have hybrid minivans. Of course, it's only 3 years old, so that will take a while anyway.

Congrats, Serge, on owning it free and clear! That's such a great feeling.

It is indeed a great feeling, Kouredios, after 6 years of mailing a $357 check every month. Now, what shall we do with that extra $357? I'm sure something will occur to us.

Huzzah. Congratulations. Will you change your car insurance too? That always saves money, from having to have full coverage to only having just as much coverage you want.

I'm holding out for flying cars, myself.

I think I'll stick with my current insurance company. It was already pretty minimal coverage anyway.

As for flying cars... I'm glad those aren't around. Considering how many idiots out there can barely cope with moving thru two dimensions, I shudder to think of giving them access to a third one. Bad enough we have to look left and right before crossing a street, we'd also have to look up. On the other hand, I'd like to have the Rocketeer's backpack although I never figured out how he managed to keep the exhaust from burning his derrière to a crisp.

I'm looking forward to dropping down to liability from full-coverage on my insurance. I should have my Element paid off by next summer. Then it'll be $400/year for insurance, instead of $1200/year.

Good point about the 3 dimensions. But I want a flying car. Much more than I would ever want a pony.

I think the Rocketeer had molded asbestos panties. It's the only reasonable explanation!

Hmmm... Maybe I should talk to my insurance guy. Meanwhile, for a 6-year-old vehicle, our minivan is in very good shape. Not bad for something with over 100,000 miles in its body. ("That many miles?" one might ask. That's what you get when you drive from New Mexico to the Bay Area a couple of times each each, and that's 1100 miles each way.)
