It's poetry in motion
She turned her tender eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mm - but she blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And failed me in biology

When I'm dancing close to her
"Blinding me with science - science!"
I can smell the chemicals
"Blinding me with science - science!"
"Science!"
"Science!"

Mm - but it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mm - but she blinded me with science
And failed me in geometry

When she's dancing next to me
"Blinding me with science - science!"
"Science!"
I can hear machinery
"Blinding me with science - science!"
"Science!"

It's poetry in motion
And now she's making love to me
The spheres are in commotion
The elements in harmony
She blinded me with science
"She blinded me with science!"
And hit me with technology

"Good heavens Miss Sakamoto - you're beautiful!"
I -
I don't believe it!
There she goes again!
She’s tidied up, and I can't find anything!
All my tubes and wires
And careful notes
And antiquated notions

But! - it's poetry in motion
And when she turned her eyes to me
As deep as any ocean
As sweet as any harmony
Mm - but she blinded me with science
"She blinded me with - with science!"
She blinded me with...

So said Thomas Dolby a long time ago. And in spite of its having been a quarter of a century since his song first came out, I had never seen the video of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-cJYqxyo-0).

Anyway, Intel's science fair is going on this week, two blocks down from my office, and today is the day where it's open to the general public. Hopefully, I'll be able to take some time off work, if only to see what it is that they do, those smart girls and boys who have invaded the neighborhood.

I haven't thought of that song in years.

And it took you back to the days of your foolish youth, eh?

I don't think I'd ever seen that video; MTV came around during the period when I had no TV, so most of my exposure to music videos occurred when I was eating at a local pizza parlor.

However, you did remind me of this video that I saw at said pizza parlor, which I think you might enjoy for different reasons.

Okay.
Someone has got to say it.

"Spock!!!"

Does anybody remember the Talking Heads's song that went this way?

And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!

I've wondered for a long time if it got its inspiration from the Twilight Zone episode Parallels. That's the one where an astronaut goes into orbit - and comes down safely. Or so it seems. But he starts noticing that some things aren't the way he remembered them. And when his wife kisses him, she stops, because there is something off about him. Eventually, he realizes he is in an alternate reality. By the end, he makes it back to his true home and comments that this is his beautiful home, and this is his beautiful wife.
