We had the TV's classical-music channel on last night and, at some point, I noticed the factino at the bottom to the screen, according to which John de Lancie had been the principal oboist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He had been since 1940 though so I wondered if the other John de Lancie might have been related. A trip to imdb.com confirmed that Q's dad had been an oboist.
