The raids on London are almost over, I wanted to tell him. He'll start bombing the countryside in a matter of weeks. Canterbury, Bath, aiming always at the cathedrals. You and St.Paul's will both outlast the war and live to dedicate the fire watch stone.
There's something strange about reading a story - especially a time-travel story - armed with the knowledge of where it'll lead 30 years later, knowing what Connie Willis didn't then know, that novella "Fire Watch" would give birth to Hugo-winning novels "Blackout" and "All Clear".
Did I like it?
Did St.Paul's make it thru everything that Hitler threw at it?
