of college and oozing sores

It occurred to me yesterday that, 30 years and 14 days ago, I graduated from college - and found myself landing with a thud among those looking for a programmer's job. And, also yesterday, I had to take our youngest dog to the vet because he had some cactus spines in his face that we couldn't extract and some of the older unnoticed ones were making his skin ooze pus. He's OK now, but I'm popping antibiotics pills inside of him for the next ten days.

30 years ago I was 2/3 through what would turn out to be a 3-year period of time working for a defense subcontractor on Kwajalein.

Is Kwajalein why you now reside in Hawai'i?

I look back at where I was back then, and I look at everything that's happened since then, and if you told my college-graduate self about it, he'd say "No way." I mean, getting married, moving to another country? You might as well have told me that Evil Alien Overlords were going to come and conquer the Earth by 2001.

No. The family's residence here combined with needing a cheap or rent-free place to live while I went back to school on the GI Bill ($311/month) to finish my degree is why I moved here. Path of least resistance? Maybe.
