deadbolt strike three and yerrout!
Mar. 14th, 2012 06:30 pmAfter strong winds recently hit our area, I eventually found why the door had been flung open in spite of the deadbolt. That's because the deadbolt strike was made of such a soft metal that the wind's pressure against the door's crack had warped it. Luckily the door wasn't ripped off its hinges this time. I went to the bigbox hardware store to get a sturdier strike. The original had been narrower and of a non-standard model, but I found something I could fit in. When I got up at 3am today, I found the door slowly swinging around in the weak breeze even though the strike was intact so I screwed the extra strike on top of it. Hopefully this is it because I'm not sure we'll be so lucky next time Nature huffs and puffs.
