Sue and I went to a Jewish friend last night for the celebration of thhe new year 5773. It was a good way to end a weekend that was mostly taken up by my work. Some of that had been my own choice: I had volunteered to research what needs to be done for an upcoming project. Some questions remain unanswered, but I think I've done a fine job of it. That was the first part of my weekend. Then, late on Saturday afternoon, our system's monthly processing ran into a database-performance issue. Being the coordinator of production-support, I logged in and, from then until Sunday's late afternoon(*), it was me and our team's oncall newbie working to get this resolved, chasing around for a database expert who could figure out the issue and fix it. Meanwhile, the rest of our team uttered not a peep until the dust had settled, and then it was only to suggest that we should have a meeting to discuss the issues encountered over the weekend. What a silly bunch.

(*) There were some bits and pieces of sleep somewhere in there.
