Does anybody else remember seeing Caleb Carr's "The Osiris Chronicles"? It never made it past the pilot episode, it was clunky, but it reminded me of the stories the old "Star Trek" would have told. Its premise was that something like the Federation had fallen apart, and the new crew of the Osiris, captained by Rod Taylor, decided to start putitng the pieces together. Yes, that was before Roddenberry's "Andromeda".

Would that be the same Caleb Carr that wrote The Alienist, do you know?

I believe he also wrote a science fiction novel, which was reputedly quite bad.
