I'm sorry to have been so much of a bore
But in my own funny way I find I learn much more.

- Gentle Giant's "Funny Ways"

Some time ago, a co-worker said I have funny ways of doing things. ("Only *one* has said that?") Humph. Since she likes me, I took it as a compliment. I was at the team's office in the Bay Area, and she came over to ask for my help because she knew I had once dealt with a similar situation. I turned to my laptop, opened my email account and scrolled thru its many subdirectories until I came across the one where I was likely to find an old email on the subject. My co-worker thought it was hilarious that I'd keep archives of what I've worked on. It seems to me to be a perfectly logical way to do things, and to refrain from wasting time by reinventing the wheel. Yesterday that allowed me to spend only 5 minutes on finding the answer to a question the boss had - and it turned out to be the same answer to the same question I'd been asked 5 months ago when I had another boss. I have this feeling that there are many other nerds who've caused perplexity in the rest of the world because it never occurred to them to do things in any way but the logical way.
