My parents-in-law were watching Men of Honor on the FX network last night. Next was going to be The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I didn't tell my mom-in-law what that was about, figuring out that Sean Connery as Allan Quartermain would lure her in. I was also quite adamant about not telling her why the bad guys were trying to kill him because I had an inkling that having Captain Nemo and the Invisible Man show up would seal her fate. It did. She watched the whole thing.

Bwahahahah!!!

That part of the movie was definitely problematic, to put it mildly, but there was enough neat stuff in it that I bought the DVD. Still, I wish it had kept the original graphic novel's Beauty & the Beast relationship between Mina Harker and Mister Hyde.

Ah, I've never seen the graphic novel. The film was, overall, rather disappointing.

To tell the truth, I thought that Alan Moore's graphic novel had its own storytelling problems. I loved its central concept though, and that survived into the movie. (Also, I have a great fondness for retro-SF.)

Ah. Overall, I didn't find the film successful, but that may just be me (not to mention the shock of 'Tom Sawyer, Secret Agent').
