I enjoyed the movie HellBoy when it came out a few years ago, but it's only recently that I decided to take a look at the comic-book that was its inspiration. I'm not sure I like it as much because it relies heavily on its readers already knowing a lot about HellBoy's life and times. True, one could say that this is a flaw with most comic-books.

Somehow though, HellBoy's spinoff B.P.R.D.(*) doesn't have that problem and I thoroughly enjoyed the 5-issue story arc of Garden of Souls, which focuses on the origins of Abe Sapien, the group's amphibian character.

Highly recommended.
