The last time I saw my father, he said that, when I was born, he got scared he wouldn't do a good job as a dad. I replied he did fine. Yes, there are things I wish he'd done differently, but I didn't tell him that. In a reversal of the traditionnal roles, he had become the one who needed comfort and I was the person who could give him what he needed.
