(Yeah, yeah... I originally posted it on May 3, as entry #386 in Making Light's thread Report on the Current Cultural Status of Our Beloved Genre, but Posterity demanded that I put it here too. Really. Honest.)

I have this brilliant idea for a Skiffy Channel movie original. Well, not really brilliant, but I rubbed it a long time with some wax and a very soft rag.

Some company has a factory in a small town. (Probably in Eastern Europe along with every other movie made and shown on the Skiffy Channel.) The company has taken the brilliant but still untested robotics work of a beautiful (hence female) scientist played by Claudia Black and, against her dire warnings that something could go wrong, they are building robotic toys. The only person who will listen to the BFS is the factory's head of security, played by Dean Cain.

Then something does go wrong, and many copies of the dog-sized mosquito-shaped robots escape.

The title?

MosquiToys

Hah! You say that because you're jealous that you do not have the kind of Brilliant Mind that can conjure such concepts out of thin air... ah... I mean, out of their awesome cerebrality.

Heck, it's no worse a title than Mansquito, which is a real movie that they did broadcast, about a man who becomes a humanoid mosquito. I saw enough of it to decide that, yes, it sucks.

With a title like that it would.

I loved title Mansquito, by the way.

MosquiToys has the same level of brilliant wrongness.

Flattery will get you nowhere.

I did try to fit giant biologically-based spiders and mutant sharks into the plot, but that'd have been pushing it. Oh, and if this inspires you to write your own story, feel free to do so. I'm sure that you'd be far better at it than I would. Heheheh...

Speaking of the Skiffy Channel, I must remember to watch the latest installment of Flash Gordon tonight. A glutton for punishment, moi? Never! Never? Well, hardly ever...

Like the first time you mentioned it, I'm still impressed with your keen insights on casting.

That's me all right... Mister Keen... Right.
