We're hitting the road (metaphorically anyway) tomorrow, towards Utah's Zion National Park and that general area, and will be back on September 8, ealy in the afternoon, at which point I'll have to immediately log in to work because of our backup server's business-continuation exercise of that day. As for today, I'm officially also on vacation, but there are some office tasks that I need to take care of while also getting ready for the trip, all this after getting 4 hours of sleep last night. Like my manager said yesterday during a staff meeting, I am about to embark on a much needed vacation.

Have fun, Serge!

September 8 is, for me, a day of evil omen: it was the day I started secondary school.

Many moons ago, I take it, and yet you remember the exact date? As for myself, I get a kick out of my having become an American citizen on June 23, 1994, as June 23 traditionally was when the school year ended for me up in Québec. Thus did an ending become a beginning. Or something.

That being said, thanks for the wishes. I will work very hard at having a good time. I'm bringing F/SF magazines, and anthologies and stuff. And a small TV-cum-DVD-player for when one needs to get away from words. But one can't stay away from words for too long. I will also have a notepad and my computer, with which I'll cook up some more awesome entries ready to be posted here as soon as I'm back online.

By the way, do you think that Making Light will survive, with not one pun from yours truly for 10 days? The punury might cause people to go over the edge.

It was many moons ago, and the date is seared into my memory.

Your paronomasia having been so punctilious, there is no doubt that you will be missed -- but we shall be working on our aim.

Flattery, in the hope that when Zod extends his New Order's benevolent rule to Earth, you might be made its Minister of Education? You're hired!

Have a lovely time, wear your sunblock.

Check out the Sheldon 3:41 PM blog entry for a good chuckle. If I weren't at work I'd just send you the picture, but . . .

Zod's General Store... I love it.

My thanks to you too for the wishes. I was supposed to be on vacation today, but I basically spent most of it doing office work, some of it to give my manager a warm and fuzzy feeling by showing some of my co-workers what they should do if our mainframe programs fail on Friday night, when I'll be away from any and all internet connection. Mind you, they have no mainframe experience and so I expect that, if something goes wrong, I'll have to find a town where I could log in. Whoopee. My fingers are crossed. My toes too.

One annoying thing with this work-nmore-than-vacation day is that I was able to do my share of trip preparations tonight only, rushing, rushing, instead of taking it easy. I ate my supper only when I was done, at about 11pm. Oh well. I stole some of my wife's ice cream to make up for the excitement. Yum!

I'll be turning in, and logging off, soon now. One thing bugs me. I look at all the stuff we'll bring with us and it looks reasonable. Maybe those years of poking fun at my wife's everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to travel has finally paid off. Either that or we forgot something essential.

Enjoy your trip! I wanna go back there sometime; we drove through in a hurry back in 1968, and I missed a lot of it.
