A few months ago, my wife took a fall down some stairs. She caught herself quickly, but not without slamming her ribcage against the ramp. That discomfort eventually went away, but, a few weeks ago, she started feeling serious discomfort in her right knee, to the point that she now has a severe limp. Today though, she's having orthoscopic surgery. I offered to do it myself with my 22-year-old Black&Decker electric drill, but she passed.

It's my understanding that the recovery will be quick, but, of course, I'll be working from home(*) for the next few days until she can move around comfortably.

(*) There are some advantages to telecommuting, I guess.

Ouch! I hope this goes well and she feels better after all this--including the visits to the physical torturers, I mean physical therapists that come with such surgeries.

Her doctor said nothing about therapy beyond staying off her feet as much as possible on the first day. This is what some call keyhole surgery, so there's little cutting up, but they'll be looking around under her kneecap for loose bits. Still, this seems strange. Maybe he's not planning to tell her what to do until after it's over. If not, you bet we'll ask.

I hope she recovers quickly. Accidents like that hurt.

In this case, it took a long time before she felt any effect on her knee, but she definitely feels it now. We've been told that recovery is usually pretty quick, but she can't do anything anymore that involves hard impacts. Good thing she's not into jumping off planes with parachutes.

Ouch. That does sound painful. Parachute jumping is definitely to be avoided.

I hope this goes well and that she heals quickly and completely.

Totally off-topic: how do you do the tiny print as in your last line?

Thanks.

As for your question... Easy. You know how do do italics? To get tiny print, replace the 'i' with 'small'. That's it.

Oww! Hope all goes smoothly, both with the healing and with the working-from-home.

Today hasn't been the most efficient of days, but so what? If I don't use my vacations, I'll lose them. Besides, Sue has put up with major encroachment of our home by work, this is the least that my employer can do.

Best of luck from a fellow knee-injured sufferer.

Too right!

Indeed. Not only that, but work encroached upon my birthday. It wasn't for a frivolous reason, but because of real emergencies. Still, it was another reminder that one can't escape from work. Maybe today's teenagers won't have any problem with that when they grow up, considering how eager they are to always be connected thru their cell phones. Goodness... Is this what people of the 19th century felt like when the 20th showed up with all its newfngled contraptions?
