Separated at birth?

29 years, 2 weeks and one day ago…

On that drizzly but not stormy night of Sept 6, 1978, I was on my way to the house of one of my brother's friends when my bicycle's speedy trajectory was interrupted by a car that didn't see me at that intersection and started moving forward. I wound up spread on the car's hood, unharmed, but one couldn't say that of my bike. After dropping my bike back at my parents, I hurriedly walked to that friend of my brother, a couple of miles away, unsure I'd make it on time. I did. We sat down. Turned on his TV, which, unlike mine, had cable, and…

Doctor Strange began.

That movie based on one of my favorite comic-book characters had some flaws, one of which was its TV budget. Remember though. Thanks to CGI, TV can now do things that, in 1978, would have necessitated the budget of a megablockbuster thingie. Which this wasn't. So the movie was OK, but nothing came of it. The pilot didn't become a series.

Jump forward to August, when direct-to-video animated feature Doctor Strange was released. I had hoped that, since this was animation, there'd be little obstacle to giving Earth's Sorcerer Supreme the treatment he deserved even though it wasn't a theatrical feature. No such luck. It was, basically, pedestrian, in all respects. The only good thing is that, in this version, Wong isn't Strange's faithful man-servant anymore.

Oh well…

Lucky to have seen the movie? Oh.. The collision... The car had just started moving so, when I squeazed on the barkes (and did I squeaze them hard), I had lost a lot of momentum when I hit the car's front from the side. Nevertheless, it could have been more painful, if I had hit where the driver was.

because Jim and I were still in the throes (or maybe at Iguanacon) of being newly married. Got married August 19 but went on honeymoon at Worldcon. The I got back and found out I'd been fired....

It's all a blur. Excepf for some specific parts of Iguanacon, some sharable and some not...

I'd say that most of what was going for you at that time was far more pleasant than feeling like a deer's carcass on a hunter's vehicle.
