Starting at 3amPT tomorrow, Turner Classic Movies will be showing the following movies:

They Came From Beyond Space
From the Earth to the Moon
First Men in the Moon
Twelve to the Moon
Destination Moon
The Mouse on the Moon
Have Rocket, Will Travel
Moon Pilot
A Trip to the Moon
For All Mankind
The Right Stuff
Marooned
Capricorn One

Some of them I already own on DVD. One I have no wish to see ever again and you can probably guess which one. I'll probably record most of the remaining ones onto my DVR, especially Disney's Moon Pilot, which I haven't seen since I was a young teen, but not so long ago that I forgot that the alien lady was quite cute.

As for why those movies will be on TCM, you do remember what happened on that date, 40 years ago, right?

I've never heard of most of them--which one are you avoiding and why?

Capricorn One's premise is that NASA fakes a mission to Mars then tries to kill to astronauts. You can imagine why I dislike that movie.

As for the other movies... It'd take too long to explain what they're about, but I highly recommend First Men in the Moon. It's based on HG Wells's novel of the same title, where Victorians use antigravity to fly to the Moon, where they encounter a hive society of intelligent insects living under the surface.

And if you STILL want details about the other movies, well, we WILL meet at the worldcon, right?

You left out the fact that Capricorn One also features O.J. Simpson; one more reason, not that you needed any.

Ah yes... A few years ago, The Towering Inferno was on TV and there was a weird feeling in watching him play a building security guard who saves a kitty for the flames. Kind of like watching a very young Robert Blake in Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Ew. No, I don't want to see that movie either. And yes--by hook or by crook, we WILL.
