If someone asked you what you think was the best declaration of love in a movie, what would you come up with?

One of my favorites was in 1976's Robin and Marian, with Sean Connery as an older Robin, and Audrey Hepburn as Marian, who loved Robin so much that, when he left for the Crusades years before, she tried to commit suicide. Near the end of the movie, there is a scene where Robin and the Sherriff (played by Robert Shaw) agree to settle things once and for all in a duel. The night before, Marian, despairing that she will lose Robin again, goes to Little John (played by Nicol Williamson), hoping that he'll convince Robin to call the whole thing off, but he can't. She then says that he never liked her, that she always came between him and Robin. He simply looks at her and says:

"If you had been mine, I would never have left you."

That is Margene's favorite movie. I can't find your email address, somehow it got tossed OR I read it at work and it took it off the roadrunner server.... mine's dragonet@kc.rr.com. And I'm friending you, if you don't mind.

Her surgery went fabulously, the doc was amazed a week later that she was just using her cane, not the walker, to come into the office (it WAS the first time 'down' our nasty staircase since we got her'up' after surgery...). She started therapy this week and they were surprised at her range of motion (even though we were bad about her pt at home....). Actually after she got the staples out she started going down to the kitchen to make her lunch, on the idea that it would be good. And even healing she is not nearly in as much pain as she was before she went into surgery. The replacement replaced the medial meniscus, whicn was completely gone. Apparently the arthroscopy caused the arthritis to flare up and it ate what was left of the cartliage.

Of course I don't mind your friending me. What a silly thing to think. As for my email address, it's serge dash lj at comcast dot net. One of these days, I'm going to post a jpg in my site's banner so that people can write directly to me, but without basically telling spammers "Spam me, spam me!"

So, Robin and Marian is Margene's favorite movie? What about you? Maybe you're like my wife, who refuses to watch it because it is such a sad story. It is heart-breaking.

On the not-sad side of things... I am glad to hear that Margene is doing fine. Are the two of you thinking of going to the Denver worldcon next year?

One more thing... Do you mind my friending your own blog?

This does not sound like a lot of fun for her. You both have my sympathy. (And here, I was moaning about a colonoscopy which compared to all this is nothing.)

Wow, that is a great comment. I'll have to watch that version. I'm taking a class on Arthurian Literature (pronounced "lit-ra-chur") at Oxford starting Friday. Can't wait!

I am almost finished with your wife's book, btw. Really enjoying it, too, though I suspect she knew I would, what with the subject matter and all.

How's the new puppy?

It IS a great comment, yes. It is a great movie, with a knockout cast, and written by William Goldman who, I think, knew a few things about good writing.

Thanks for the comments about Sue's book. I'll pass this on to her.

As for the puppy... After Cagney chewed on one of Sue's expensive boots, we wondered if we should have called him Grendel. But he sure is a sweetie. He loves lying on top of us to sleep. That's made easy by his being small. He hasn't grown that much since we got him, but his legs have gotten longer.

William Goldman! A fave of mine. I've got a book of his here, on Hollywood. I'll definitely check that out.

Make sure to have a few hankies available by the time you reach the movie's end.
